Small-Sided Games for Football Coaching
Use player numbers, pitch shape and scoring rules to build small-sided games that teach specific tactical decisions.

Change one constraint
Choose the behaviour first. A wider pitch can give players time to find switches. A narrower pitch can make support and central cover more important. Change one feature at a time so you can see whether it helps the intended decision.
Adjust the numbers
A neutral player can create a spare option for the side in possession. If the spare makes play too easy, reduce their area or remove the role. Give defenders a counter target so a recovery has a purpose.
Use a measure players understand
For a pressing game, count regains after the team shuts the inside pass. For a switching game, count far-side receptions that lead to a forward action. Keep the measure visible and review one example between bouts.
