Five-a-Side Football Strategy During Play
Learn practical five-a-side decisions for kick-ins, pressing and recovery runs once the game is moving.

Make the restart give two options
Where your venue uses kick-ins, send one teammate towards the ball and another behind the nearest defender. Keep a deeper option available if both forward passes are covered. Check your venue’s restart and area rules before the match.
Press together on the flank
Close as a receiver faces the touchline. One teammate screens the return pass and another protects the middle. If the receiver gets their head up before cover arrives, slow them down and recover shape.
Protect the centre after losing it
Ask the closest player to delay and the next to block a direct route towards goal. The far player can recover inside before tracking out. Practise three quick restarts in a row so the players react to changing angles.
